Our team is dedicated to helping you progress in your chosen event.
After retiring from 33 years rugby I took up marathons and ultra running. I got such a buzz from the training I wanted to help others into endurance events. I qualified as a PT & Level 2 Triathlon Coach along with taking my Level 2 UKA Coaching Certificate. I am taking my Level 3 Triathlon Coach this year.

Having had sport in my life from a very young age I’ve always been involved in team events. After going to the Olympics in 2012 I wanted a challenge, it was suggested to me by a family member to do a Ironman. ( what ever that was).
A few years later I found myself a member of JBR and I’ve managed to achieve the goals I had set myself with the help of the coaches and members of the club. They say that triathlon is a individual sport but with all the members behind you its a team effect all round no matter you ability.
After retiring from roller derby due to a shoulder injury, I accidentally came across JBR Tri club's training session. It took me a few weeks to gain enough courage to ask: "How fit do I have to be to give it go?" Jon Brown responded: "All abilities are welcome." Hmmm... Even someone unfit like myself? Okay... Few years down the line, I start my Monday mornings at work by saying "Ooh I love my office chair, it's soooo comfy compared to my bike saddle!" JBR Run and Tri club is an amazing community of people who train together, encourage and support each other. There is something for everyone. My personal favourite activities are muddy trail running in winter and cycling on Sunday mornings for a coffee and a bacon roll (or cake!).
I had my first experience of triathlon in 2016 when a friend suggested we have a go at a Sprint Triathlon. Neither of us had the slightest clue what we were doing and were pretty terrified. We somehow got through it but as much as we had enjoyed it, we had no plans to do any more. But in the Winter of 2017, after a few conversations with my buddy Woody, I came along to a JBR Spin Session and fell in love with the sport but more so The Club itself and the people involved.
Since then I have completed Triathlons at all distances including the IRONMAN in Barcelona 2019 alongside 19 other members of JBR. Our ‘little, local’ Tri Club took the crown as Europes largest represented Triathlon Club in attendance.
Despite only learning to swim properly in 2016, it is the sport I love the most! Particularly Open Water Swimming. Alongside a few other hardy fools from JBR, you will often find me in the Sea at Southend throughout the year. More often than not, without our wetsuits!
Whatever your aspirations, whatever your experience level, JBR is the club for you. Triathlon is one of the most individual sports in the world but being part of our Club, you never feel alone.
My name is Jennie Page and I am your Ladies Captain. I have been doing triathlons for about 6 years now. Originally I was a runner and transferred over due to continued back issues. Part of my rehab was swimming, then I just added the other sports in. My favourite distances to race are Olympic and 70.3 and I am lucky enough to have represented the GB Age group team at both. It’s an amazing experience and you feel honoured!
I love being part of the JBR Tri club, we all support each other, encourage, believe in one another, it really does have that unique family vibe! So what ever your journey or your goals, come and have a chat with me, I would love to say hello! Finally a huge BIG welcome to our club!
Not coming from a sporting background I decided to give OW swimming and triathlon a go completing my first sprint triathlon in 2015. Eager to repeat this experience I discovered the JBR beginners Triathlon course in 2016 at my local gym, and whilst dodgy knees have kind of put paid to running, I found a love for swimming and eagerly joined JBR. Since then I have been lucky enough to meet like-minded people and not only have I rekindled my enjoyment on the bike, but found a talent for marathon swimming; having since gone on to complete a Channel Relay, end to end of Lake Windermere, The Bosporus, Thames Marathon and many other 10K + swimming events. I still like to dip my toe in the triathlon world and very much enjoy the Aqua bike discipline and relay elements of triathlon. My next events include swimming Lake Leman in Geneva and having another crack at the Ice Mile. Having been in the club for a while I feel it is high time to give something back and knowing how friendly this club is, becoming social secretary seems a no brainer. Hope to see many of you dressed in something other than Lycra with a drink in your hand at some point soon!
After following our young daugther as a junior triathlete for some years my wife and I thought we would like to have a go.
We completed the second Beginners Tri and we have not looked back! We like to keep fit so the combination of swim bike and run pushes us.
Our club offers the best combination of support, friendship and encouragement.

I come from a swimming background. In my youth I won Essex titles, Southern Counties and reached many National finals to name but a few of my achievements. I felt the need to start swimming training again and was recommended to Jon. I came along to the tri club and never looked back. It's been great being here from the start and watching the club grow. I've only taken part in a couple of sprint triathlons as I find cycling and especially the running very hard. I do hope to do at least a standard one day.I teach swimming, I love it. I'm hoping to be more involved with the swimming side of things in the club. This year I'm going to be part of the JBR run and tri channel relay swim team and looking forward to a very different challenge.

I used to be a hard house DJ and put on so much weight from bad eating and drinking too much, I needed a lifestyle change so I joined Garons gym in 2002, lost 3.5 stones, became a PT and got into triathlon 10 years ago. I’ve done all distances from full Ironman to sprint, adore swimming and have done several 10km swims, including Dart and Hurly Burly 10k. I’m passionate about cycling and love time trials of all distances and running too. I’ve qualified to race for Great Britain for the ITU Worlds and ETU European Championships standard distance 2020.
Swim, bike, run, gym is my passion in life and it makes me feel alive, mentally strong and happy. I joined JBR last year and love this amazing close knit and friendly club. I’ve been made to feel so welcome so I am delighted to be part of the club as welfare officer.
I’m a 49yr old city worker living the dream. I joined the club because I wanted to move beyond cycling, plus I heard there was a Kit Managers position going!
I love the buzz of the club that’s building momentum and pushing members horizons. JBR has that buzz.
